The installer is a third-party one. I'm using the latest version (I think) and the installation process does nothing out of the ordinary. i.e. Darned if I know what's wrong.

This is to avoid a potential Windows stack overflow problem that was plaguing users before. Although the solution is not optimal, it does fix the problem. I will attempt to find a better solution in the future, but it's low on my list of priorities right now.

Windows 64 appears to be a sparsely-populated minefield. Have you tried setting AP to use the Win XP compatibility mode? That might, or might not, help.
