[APBeta] Field of view shows correct object for a second, then it disappears

I'm guessing that it's your CdC 3 settings at work (based on your earlier e-mail message). As soon as you draw the FoV, CdC is redrawing to show its FoV. You might want to turn off some of the settings - or make sure the "Manual Control" checkbox in External prefs is set.
