[APBeta] Problems connecting to AP1200 or to ASCOM

Paul,
Thanks for the heads up on ASCOM - I will steer clear of it until you give the all-clear. However, I still have a basic problem that I cannot connect to my AP1200 directly even without ASCOM (something that worked fine previously)... Any hints about where I should look?
Particulars are:
Dell XPS laptop
Windows XP
Prolific chipset based USB to Serial converter
Astro-Physics 1200 GTO CP3
Astroplanner 2.0b11

Trust me when I say it's my problem. I haven't gotten around to fixing
up ASCOM yet (mostly because I can't get ASCOM drivers to work -
seamingly an ASCOM installation problem). Be patient.
