[APBeta] Next release

I had a revelation thinking about this while walking home today. I think I might have a line on the problem. 

When you get a chance, can you see if the problem goes away if you pause for, say 5 seconds, after typing notes before you create a new observation. It could be a timing issue exacerbated by large obs databases.
