Yes, as long as it was designed so that you could choose what got merged.
(i.e. I'd want to be able to restore/merge ONLY the images.)
 
I submitted a feature request: feel free to merge it with this one if you
want.

No, but you're welcome to argue for such a feature.


There is already a feature request (which is still pending for V2, although
implementation might not happen) to allow merging of backed-up stuff upon
restore (e.g. observations, resources, etc.):

If this was extended to include the image database, it would resolve your
problem.
