A bug or a feature?  :^)
The red stuff is there because those objects are in your plan.  
Unfortunately there's no longer a direct way to avoid them. However,  
if you go to the FoV preferences, and under "Other options" (in the  
middle) check the "Remove duplicate objects", you might get happier.
