I have less than 150 downloaded images. So hopefully that will clear up.
The re-paint is making AP almost unusable for me.

It could be that the background task that loads the image cache into  
the database is slowing things down. Once that's finished, things  
should speed up. However, I'm only guessing here. Do you have a large  
number of downloaded/user images?
