I did look at this recently, but it was actually nastier to resolve than I initially thought, so I left it for later. I know what the issue is (nothing to do with spell check).

When my brain is bit less fried, I'll look at it again.

I'm still finding the backspace key really hard to use (there's a ½ second or longer pause before redraw) while typing in the observation notes window.

I think this was perhaps something you couldn't reproduce (or perhaps that was only in the script editor window)?  I assume it also happens in the script editor, but I haven't been editing scripts in a couple of versions.

I do have inline spell-checking turned off.
