[APBeta] Problems connecting to AP1200 or to ASCOM

I am having problems connecting Astroplanner directly to my 1200GTO or to te 1200GTO driver in ASCOM.  The symptom is that the application "beeps" at me and gives an error message "Unhandled Exception: Nil Object Exception".  While obviously the ASCOM connection was not existent in 1.6, I was always successful connecting directly to the AP 1200 (I know what comm port is in use, for example).

The particulars are:


	* Dell XPS laptop
	* Prolific chipset based USB to Serial converter
	* Astro-Physics 1200 GTO CP3
	* Astroplanner 2.0b11
Because neither direct connect or ASCOM are working I think I have done something basic wrong...  Does anyone have any suggestions?
