It could be the "Sort highlighted objects to the top" preference  
problem you encountered. I have just been fixing that.

Can you start APv2 with the Ctrl key down (to avoid loading any  
documents). Then create a new plan document, and use Edit->Preferences- 
 >Lists to make sure the above preference is OFF.
